Personal post

No make up, No face!
So I am not a selfie queen with an amazing clear camera. This as good as it gets right now haha.
But as you can see I have gone from black hair to a lovely dark ash blonde with golden highlights. I managed this in 4 days. 2 bleaches and a lot of toning.

Sadly my natural hair is a bit too dark to match my extensions and I don't dare to put a dye on to lighten my hair as its already too brittle. I will more then likely go to a deep red in the next week. I would love to give the blonde more of a chance, but I have my husbands birthday coming and I can't bare to not have my extensions when we go out!

Today, was my little girls 3rd birthday and we had such a big day! I must say this mummy did so well considering I had barely 2 hours sleep.
So no tutorials tonight. Sneaky Grill'd dinner and an early night is in order!

I think my next post will be on how to care for extensions. So stay tuned!

Fixing over toned hair. Silver/purple to blonde!

UH OH! You have over toned your hair and its now a silver/purple!
Well don't worry because I have the quick solution to turn your hair back to normal.
Trust me, I have done this many times!

You will simply need;

Dish washing liquid
Kettle (with extensions only)
Bucket/bowl (with extensions only)
Treatment/Conditioner

Firstly wet your hair and wash with hot water (don't burn yourself!) and dish washing liquid . It make take a few goes but you should start seeing the toner come out and your hair become more golden.

For extensions, separate hair into to halves, tie them both up at the bottom of the clips and then wet them and wash with dish washing liquid until the water no longer runs blue. To get the remainder out, put dish washing liquid in a bucket or bowl, fill with boiling hot water from the kettle and soak the extensions for as long as necessary.

Understand that dish washing liquid may dry out your hair so it is important to treat or condition well after and remember wet hair is always darker then dry hair.

For a treatment I use, Wella Professionals Brilliance for coloured hair.

Toning your extensions

You have lovely platinum/ash blonde hair but no extensions to match. In this post I will tell you how to get your extensions to match your hair colour.

Firstly you might want to buy new extensions as I do not recommend bleaching them. I always buy the colour #60 Platinum Blonde in 100% Remy extensions*. It is the lightest shade you can buy but I still find them too yellow.

I dont use a toner, but a silver shampoo by De Lorenzo, as you are only lightening it a little and not going from a brassy orange and yellow. If you are, how ever you may want to use a proper toner which is completely fine. I use Schwarzkopf Nordic Blonde Toner.

First i separated the extensions into two halves, then tied them both up at the ends of the clips. This makes them tangle less when there wet**. I applied the silver shampoo to dry hair and left it on for 10-15 which was too long and resulted in a silver/purple colour. I would recommend applying the silver shampoo to wet hair and maybe massaging it in a bit longer then usual. You can always rinse it out and repeat till you get your desired colour. Remember that the hair is always darker when wet. and to apply heat protective spray before blow drying and styling.

Notes-
*I buy my extensions from 20" 100% Remy Hair, Blonde Clip In and I buy two lots.
**I leave the hair tied up as I blow dry to keep them untangled. Never brush wet hair.

Bleaching dark hair to platinum/ash blonde

Going to the hairdressers isn't always an option or affordable. In saying that, I have never once gone to the hairdressers to have my hair coloured. So I will tell you how I bleached my hair from black to ash blonde and where I bought the items you will need (Australia)

You will need to these items;

Blue bleaching powder (Glamaco)
Developer (Glamaco)
Plastic mixing bowl (Glamaco)
Mixing brushes (Glamaco)
Toner (Woolworths)
Silver toning Shampoo (Glamaco)
Treatment (Glamaco)
Gloves (Woolworths)
Hairclips/ties (Glamaco & Woolworths)

Sorry for the dim/bad quality photo. Just a quickie from my phone

Bleaching Process:

1. Put your gloves on! Then start by sectioning your hair into small layers and tying each part into little buns and making sure you clip it all out of the way from the parts you will be bleaching first. You want to make sure you start bleaching from the bottom of your head and making your way to the top. DO NOT BLEACH YOUR ROOTS. Leave them until last as they will turn lighter first.

2. I never measure how much powder I use, I just put a reasonable amount in and use just less then half the amount of developer to match the powder. (Ex. 1/2 of a cup of powder to a 1/4 of a cup of developer)
You will need to adjust how much of each you use. You don't want it too lumpy/dry or too runny. Mix it well

3. With the mixing brushes pretty much paint the bleach onto the hair, getting both sides of your hair and rubbing it in using your fingers to ensure you don't leave out any parts. After you have done that layer, take down the next layer and repeat.

4. Once all of the hair is covered well, start bleaching the roots. It will be harder to separate the hair to the roots as your hair becomes a bit matted. Make sure you do not miss any parts.

5. Leave on for half an hour to 40 minutes depending on hair colour and developer. If you are using a stronger developer like 40% +* you make want to leave it on for a less amount of time.

6. After the desired time, rinse your hair well making sure there is no bleach left. Your hair may start to feel very soft or jelly like**. You can either bleach again after or leave it until your hair feels ready to handle another lot of bleach. Treating your hair in between bleaches will help keep the hair from dying/drying out.

Toning:

If your hair is at a light yellow/ then it is time to tone out the brassy yellow colours to a nice blonde.
You do not want to tone your hair if it is only a brown or orange colour as it will not go blonde.

1. Apply the toner as you did the bleach, starting from the ends leaving the roots for last. I recommend washing out a section to see how much yellow has come out. You don't want it turning silver or purple. If it is still yellow, re tone that part and leave on longer. Rechecking every 3-5 minutes.

2. When ready rinse very well as it likes to cling to your hair. Use your normal shampoo to help get it out. Then dry your hair to see what the colour it has become, I would use a heat protective spray to keep the hair from getting more dry.

3. Use your silver shampoo if your hair is still too yellow for your
liking, but be careful not to over tone it.

Trust your instincts as no one knows your hair better then yourself.
Always keep it conditioned and treated.

Notes-
*I used a 40% developer as my hair was quite healthy and dark. If your hair is lighter or not as healthy try a 20% or a 30%.
**If your hair feels jelly like and breaks off easy, do not worry. Keep treating your hair and make sure you NEVER brush your hair while it is wet. Use a heat protective spray before blow drying and straightening/curling.

Introduction

Dear readers,

I am so happy that you're reading this, I hope that my posts will help you in some way.
Like you I have searched all over the net trying to find ways to do certain things and even how to fix mistakes. It can be frustrating and time consuming, and if you are impatient like myself it can be even more annoying!

I would just like to make clear I am not a professional and nor have I been trained in anyway. The extent of my training would be youtube tutorials. I have however dyed/bleached my hair numerous occasions and have learnt what to do and not do. The same goes for make up.

So I really do hope you enjoy my blog and if there are any topics you would like me to discuss please feel free to say.
